Woodshed was nearly empty. I will need to purchase about 3 cords of firewood to get started. I will also begin cutting the freshly fallen oak, apple & walnut wood around the farm for a future supply. I have been advised that I will need around 5 to 6 cords of firewood per year.
I purchased my first cord (seasoned black walnut) from a firewood producer at $404/cord. Very pricey, I think. Oak not available right now. I will buy a cord of seasoned oak next month, and a cord of something else the month after that. Meanwhile, I will try to cut some of the fallen oak around the farm each day. At 72 years old, I can only manage a small amount at a time. No worries, though. What I lack in strength and endurance, I compensate with tenacity!
